Get some sleep guys!! Andie-Please let me know if you hear anything about Albert's injury from tonight's game. I hate playing the guy because he's such a great player, but he's a really good man and I hate to see him go down with an injury knowing he's all ready a bit banged up. Get some sleep guys!! That's how I took the win...It just didn't seem like the Reds were all there, you know? Today should be a better game with everyone rested. BTW, our broadcasters talked about Pete Rose last night every chance they got. One of the reporters interviewed him and Dan & Al seemed to be all giddy afterwards. As for Albert, (thanks for asking, btw) they're saying it's a strained calf muscle and he isn't going to avoid the DL (d'oh). They're bringing up Chris "he just can't seem to pull the trigger unless the ball is 15 feet outside the strike zone" Duncan up from Memphis to play first. They don't know exactly how serious it is, but they do know he'll be on the DL. I'm worried for the injury, but they've won 3 series now without him producing that much---granted we've got Phillie, New York and Boston comming up. What irritates me is Mike & Mike this morning during the baseball talk with Steve Phillips. They mentioned the injury in this way: "Do you think CUBS fans believe in fate? Well, their closest rivals, the Cardinals, had their best player go out with an injury last night, so fate could be on the side of the CUBS" <<insert several cuss words here>> "Bad news for the Cardinals, but maybe fate for the CUBS" WTF...I don't know WHY I watch this show. For them, the United States starts in Bristol, Conn, goes up to Boston and New York, stops in Chicago and then skips over everyone else and ends in California. When Edmonds signed with the Cubs, they did a 45 min bit about how would the poor Cubbie fans ever be able to love someone like Edmonds who was with the enemy Cardinals. I wrote an e-mail and asked what about us POOR Cards fans who had to see him in that crappy blue and white uniform and play in that dinosaur ballpark?! I didn't get a response because they were probably like "where is this sssss, I'll sound it out, Saint Louie...oh Louis" Morons! I hate this show yet I watch it every morning. Chris Duncan sounds like his brother Shelly.. LOL. He's been pretty good at first base (thanks to some tutoring by Mr Tino Martinez... Tino's got himself a front office job with the Yanks... assistant to the GM, doing some scouting, keeping track of the minor leaguers, and also does a little coaching before games)... but there's times when he can't buy a hit. He's got some nice power when he connects ... he goes up there just swinging away half the time. He did give us a little boost last year.. hit a bunch of HRs when he was called up, but hasn't done much of anything this season.. and has made a few trips to AAA as a result (where he tears the cover off the ball.. go figure). Rita... should be an exciting 3 games for us!!! Friday night y'all will get to see our setup man turned starter Joba Chamberlain. He had a better outing his 2nd time out... first time I think all the hype and media coverage got to him... he was much more relaxed on Sunday. He's on a pitch count of about 80 I believe for Friday, so if y'all are patient, you can get to our bullpen sooner rather than later. I won't be able to watch Friday night since I'm working... although we're on a local channel as opposed to the Yanks' cable network, so maybe I can catch it in a patient's room from time to time. I was sad to hear about Albert's injury. You know those are tough ones to recuperate from, but I'm sure he'll do absolutely everything to insure a complete and total recovery and quick return to his beloved team. Well, Tara - I hope you are prepared to celebrate a sweep of the Astros. Because I am not holding out much hope for them these days. I think the players are basically good (some are great), but the coaching staff really sucks the big green one. We are fighting and clawing our way to the bottom of our division as fast as we possibly can after such a stellar month of May. But I am keeping my chin up. We haven't been playing consistent baseball at all. We win two we lose three... we can't get a consistent winning streak going at all.. it's very frustrating. It's not just one thing... one day we don't hit.. one day we don't pitch. Last night was a very very sloppy game... only one actual error, but just sloppy plays in the field... stupidity running the bases... very frustrating to watch. Definitely not Yankee baseball. I can't think of too many teams who've been able to consistantly put everything together on a regular basis. There are teams like the Braves who are almost unbeatable at home but can't win for trying on the road and teams like Baltimore who are just up and down almost every week. This has been one crazy season! You'll get to see my boys next weekend when the Reds come to Yankee Stadium. That should be a great series! Reds win tonight 6-2 and after the last two nights where I felt like half the guys were playing in a coma, maybe this win tonight will wake them up enough to kick some Red Sox behind this weekend. A friend of mine offered me a ticket to tomorrow night's game but I have a test on Saturday morning for a Marketing class I took this term. I definitely can't blow my last test of the term just to go to a baseball game so I had to decline the ticket offer. I'll be checking on the game via TV though, LOL My next official Reds game will be on Tuesday night when mom and I head downtown to see Griffey Jr. be recognized during pregame ceremonies for hitting his 600th HR on Monday night. I sometimes think that the Cards just think they have it in the bag and don't show up mentally to play. It doesn't hurt that Arroyo is a pretty good pitcher and he basically shut us down. 17-2 Phillie so far (bottom of the 6th) and this game has been loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong! While no one wants their team to get their arses handed to them, one thing from last season that I enjoyed during these whoop-ass games was the banter between Dan & Al when they had nothing to talk about. They reminded me of Bob Eucker in Major Leage II. There was one game that they were getting just shot out of the park and Dan got the giggles about something and it lasted for almost 3 innings...I was in tears after he finally got done, because once you catch the giggles you just can't stop! We're going on 10:00 and it's just the 7th inning! 3 hours of game so far!!! So Taguchi came back to St. Louis this evening and he got a nice ovation from the fans. He was/is a fan favorite and it was great to see him. Cardinals fans take their cue from Stan Musial, baseball's ultimate gentleman and greatest living legend. His No. 6 statue stands outside Busch Stadium, inscribed with the affecting words of Ford Frick: "Here stands baseball's perfect warrior. Here stands baseball's perfect knight." I always love when the commentators can't find things to talk about during a really long game. The Reds guys started talking about random food earlier this season and I'm sitting at home going, "Dang I wish this game would have something happen because they've got nothing right now", LOL And ITA it's always nice when a former player comes back to town and gets a good ovation. Sean Casey came back to Cincy tonight for the first time since 2006 and got a standing ovation in his first at bat. I got tears in my eyes watching it on TV. I still miss him! Sean (aka, "The Mayor") is so beloved by this city and after spending 8+ years of his career here, this city still adores him and he still loves it here too so it was a really nice moment tonight. Beating the reigning World Champs (and getting Aaron Harang a much needed win) all made this a really great evening and I almost wish I would have accepted my friend's ticket offer now! Especially since I've not really studied all that well, LOL There was one other moment during the game tonight that I became SO proud to be a Reds fan. The RS fans started doing their "Let's Go Red Sox" chant inside the ballpark and they totally got BOOED OUT by the Reds fans! They didn't let the visiting team take over the ballpark. It was incredible and I was so proud of the fans for standing up for their team and the home turf. RS fans tend to come in huge packs but they were kept in check tonight and I think that is just awesome. Good job fans and GREAT job Reds for beating a tough team tonight!! (BTW-Hugs to you for the crazy offensive game tonight. That's crazy how many runs Philly has been putting up in games this year! ) Rita-I'm glad you got to watch the game tonight! I know what you mean about the annoucers too. This series between Boston and Cincy has been hyped up here since spring training thanks to the incredible 1975 World Series memories which was the last time the RS were in Cincy. The Reds announcers were all excited about the RS being in town too. Considering we have trouble getting fans to come out to games on a regular basis, anything that brings the fans out to the ballpark makes them very happy! And the huge crowd also gives the Reds a huge boost because they LOVE playing in front of a huge screaming crowd and boy did they have one tonight! Posts: 4481 (06/14/2008 10:27) Judge Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	During the Yankees' broadcast today they mentioned that the Astros raised ticket prices almost 50% for the Yankees series (as well as the series with Boston) ... quite a few teams do that to take advantage of increased attendance (the Rays have done it for a few years now). This is the nice thing about Interleague Play... allowing fans in the other cities to see teams and players they don't normally get to see.... other than that, I don't really see the point of IL play. As much as I like to see my pitchers up at bat for a chance (especially seeing some of the swings they take... LOL) it scares the heck out of me because I'd hate to see them get hurt because of it. A couple years ago, the SF Giants came to NY to play, and of course all the hype was if Barry Bonds would hit a HR and how far he would hit it. Well... he hit a MAMMOTH shot into the upper deck about 2/3 of the way up.... it was a freaking bomb. It was exciting, but I think we ended up losing that game... LOL. It's not funny if they get hurt doing it, but to see that much power behind their swings and see it go maybe 5 feet in front of the catcher is hilarious. I'm not a big fan of interleague play, we like it here in Missouri because, usually, that's 6 sure wins for the Cards against the Royals----they haven't swept the season series in a while and the Royals aren't gonna lie down and take it; Kansas City treats the Cardinals coming to town like the World Series every time. We have to go to freakin Detorit for the THIRD straight year, then to Boston --hello, who scheduled this?!?! Chicago gets Toronto in Toronto, then the White Sox at Wrigley and then Baltimore AT Wrigley?! I've got my conspiracy theory head going and think that the FIX is in for the Cubs! Chien Ming Wang left the game with a foot injury that happened running the bases . He had to be carried off the field and was in a soft cast using crutches after the game. Right now they are calling it a sprain, but he'll have an MRI tomorrow to find out how bad it is. Sprains are sometimes more painful than a fracture (speaking from some experience here... LOL)... so I'm expecting him to need a trip to the DL which sucks because he has just started to get his groove back after struggling for a couple weeks and the team has started to show some life as well. I just hope this doesn't set us back too much. Kinda puts a damper on the great road trip we had. Andie why are you guys playing Detroit for the 3rd straight year?!? That's weird. I don't understand the scheduling sometimes. I've heard it's not even done by MLB... it's done by an outside group... stupid idea if you ask me. Do you play at Comerica Park??? I personally hate that stadium... it's too freaking big. When we play there, its usually not a good outcome... the outfield is so expansive that when we hit a ball out there, it gets caught since the Tigers outfielders are used to playing there.... but when they hit a ball... my guys are running after it like a bunch of little leaguers. Do you play at Comerica Park??? I guess they think that if Detroit sweeps us again, that'll prove that they should've won the WS in 06 and everyone from the talk shows can be happy and say "See, it was a fluke; Detroit is the better team and they should've won". Heaven forbid they come to St. Louis and play, oh no, we have to go back to Comerica again. Two years in a row was understandable you know. 2006 they just had interleague play, in 07 it was the WS rematch which I also understood, but 3 years in a row is stupid. From what I have read this morning, Yadi has a mild concussion. Scary moment for us, but I don't think it was as bad as it looked. I think they took extra precaution because of the severity of the impact. I think Tony needs to keep Yadi out of the line up before the All-Star game. I'm not a fan of the DH rule either although I'm going to enjoy when my guys get an extra player on the field and Dunn can DH in all the AL parks we get to visit starting this weekend (NY, Toronto, and Cleveland). I hope we can get Keppinger back soon along with Jerry Hairston because those guys get on base really well at the top of the lineup and set the table for the big guys after them to drive in runs. We're missing those guys a lot in the lineup. (How is Yadier doing? That collision looked painful! Yikes.) I said this on another board but I feel like saying it here too since most of us are NL people. If you're pitchers can't handle running around the bases, and that's only if they're lucky enough to actually get on base in the first place, then how on earth do you expect them to field their position, backup the other bases, and be in the field as an actual pitcher?! That's kind of sad that you don't consider your pitcher enough of an athlete to handle running the bases a couple times a season. Aaron Harang can even run the bases and he's a HUUUUGE guy! Heck, we've sent Johnny Cueto and Bronson in to pinch run this year and the O's sent Jeremy Guthrie in to pinch run once recently. I would hope your pitchers could handle a little bit of running every so often. I feel bad that Wang is injured but to blame an entire league for that injury is ridiculous. If I had a dollar for every time that man said something that made me go WTH?!, I think I'd be able to afford every single home Reds game for the rest of the season. : On a happier note, my guys had the night off last night and it was the first day off since Memorial Day!! They played twenty straight games in that timespan (homestand, then a road trip, then a homestand again) and they really needed some rest. Hopefully everyone is ready and raring to go tonight and I'll be at the game cheering my heart out for Griffey as we officially celebrate his 600th HR milestone. I can't wait and yes, I will have my camera! I'll try to post some pics when I get a chance this week. We're right in foul ball territory in right field too so we could get some balls hit our way and we'll also be right near Junior for the game. I really hope the Reds get back on track with winning at home against the Dodgers tonight! GO REDS!!! Rita-You're boys play the Orioles this week so that should be a pretty interesting series! I'm very interested in hearing how the Baltimore fans welcome home Miggy.
