We had opportunities to win each and every game this weekend, but just couldn't come through with the big hit until today. Oh well... at least we
didn't get swept. Andy wasn't at his best today, but he fought through it and once again, gave us a chance to win. Mo made things a little interesting,
but with a 3 run lead, you don't sweat it too much with Mo on the mound... he's one of, if not the best closer in baseball and he's having one of
his best seasons. Now its onto Pittsburgh and the Mets (we have 4 games left with them... Friday is a double stadium double header... day at home, night at
Shea).... I'm ready for interleague play to be over with even though we've done pretty well.... lets get back to the real games.

The Astros took 2 out of 3 from the Rays in TB. Wow. They can't win a series at home & then they go on the road and take a series from a team that is
looking fantabulous? What's the deal with that?
This has been a crazy baseball year. Meanwhile, I see injuries piling up all over the MLB.

Rita... I just heard about what happened with Chacon and the GM... crazy stuff. I read that they released Chac... not surprised at all.. I saw that one coming
after hearing of the altercation. We are in a rain delay right now, that's been going on for about 2 hours... not good, considering that we have a double
header tomorrow (a two stadium double header!) starting at 2pm.. and have 2 pitchers going who you don't know what your going to get out of them. We picked
up Sidney Ponson with the last couple weeks (not my favorite waiver claim... we've made this mistake once before with him) .. he had a pretty decent record
in Texas but apparently was released because of his off the field actions. So, we'll see how it goes tomorrow.
It was just announced that our game has been postponed until July 10th. The Yanks are better off... now they can get home and get ready to play two tomorrow.

I love when there is any dust up between two people, one always says "I didn't raise my voice, I didn't shout" Yeah, I'm sure you said
"Please sir, leave me be and I shant talk to you in a fortnight" Whatever LOL! I wasn't there, I don't know what happened, but it always
cracks me up when one side acts like they did nothing.
Cards lose yesterday on a walk-off WALK. A freaking walk-off W-A-L-K! The bullpen is killing us so far this year. They lost a very winnable game yesterday and one the day before. (and imagine that, Chris Duncan flies out to left.....grrrrrrrr....7-for-45 since his recall from Memphis----anyone else would be shot back down to AAA in a heartbeat but oh no, not Chris Duncan) Adam Kennedy has been playing very well which makes me happy. I tend to root for the ones that a majority of Cardinal Nation don't really care for (Tino Martinez) and I have been rooting for Adam since he signed in 07 and it's thrilling for me to see him playing well. Next Friday's the big day. It's homecoming for Jimmy Edmonds. I'll hold my breath and hope that they give him the response that he so richly deserves. I wish I could be there, but I know I'll be watching at home, bawling my eyes out. He's a total traitor but he's Jimmy so I don't know, it's confusing. A lot of people have
said they'll cheer their hearts out when he's announced, then root for him to go 0-4 LOL!
And thanks Carlos Zambrainless---he wants to pitch in the All-Star game because he knows with his help, the NL can win the game and then WHEN the Cubs play in the World Series, Games One & Two can be at Wrigley.......and the Cubs lost today! I'm all for positive thinking, but when it's the Cubbies, there is nothing that will jinx them faster than talk like that!

Well the Yanks first game did not go well at all... we got our a$$es kicked 15-6. It was pathetic... our pitchers just couldn't get anyone out.. especially
Carlos Delgado (he had a double, 2 HRs.. and 9 rbis). It was not pretty... LOL. No score so far in the night cap at Shea... hopefully we can
at least win one so the day isn't a total embarrassment.

What a difference a couple hours makes.... LOL. If you would've told me that Sidney Ponson was going to pitch 6 shut out innings (got into a few jams, but
got out of them) tonight, I would've had you committed. He pitched great... whether it was a fluke or not, we'll find out, but we really needed this
win after getting our butts kicked this afternoon. The bats came alive too... although we had lots of hits this afternoon, but ended up leaving like 12 men on
base
and then there was the issue of our pitchers not doing their job. I would've like to win both games, but after the way things went this
afternoon, I'll take a split.
Rita... I'm rooting like crazy for your 'Stros to beat the stuffing out of the Sox (so is mom... the Rays are only 1/2 game behind them!)... GO ASTROS!!!!

Well goodbye to Shawn Chacon. And why didn't the dreaded dreadlocked Manny get the same treatment for pushing a poor little old man to the floor? What is
up with that? Someone said all the scuffles in Houston were due to the bottled water at the park.
Uh, well - the Astros won 2 of 3 from the hideous BoSox. So I feel pretty good about that. We also took 2 of 3 from the Rangers - good stuff. And also 2 of 3 from the Rays - wow. Last night we beat the Dodgers - the 1st of a 4 game series. We end a wretched June with a 7 - 3 for the last 10 games. Now Oswalt is injured. Brother. But he has lots of company. Why does Ponson sound familiar? Was he with Houston or St Louis recently? I know I know that pitcher from somewhere. The all-star break is quickly approaching. Maybe at least Lance Berkman will be there - perhaps Miggy. But I suppose that is all from the 'Stros. Let's play ball!!!

Yes, Rita.. I believe Ponson was with the Cards briefly within the last year or so... but Andie would know for sure. The Yanks had him either last year or the
year before for a month or so (maybe not even that long... he was horrible)... but I'm pretty sure he was with the Cards since then. He used to be with the
Orioles.. and had some off the field issues there as well, if I'm not mistaken. He's going to get another start for us tomorrow I believe... so
we'll see how things go... I'd like him to do well... with Wang out until at least Sept. 1 we need someone to step in and fill the gap (I'm not yet
convinced that he's the guy, but we'll see)... obviously you're not going to replace a pitcher like Wang, but we need to give our guys a chance to
win.
We have one more game with the Rangers after tonight, and then we get to deal with the Sox again.... which means I have to look at Manny Ramirez's face and deal with FOX and ESPN broadcasters... F.U.N... NOT. I was spared last week when we were on FOX because I had to work, so I missed most of it, plus there were 2 rain delays... one before the game even started and then one after the 6th inning. Oh well.. thankfully, we haven't been on FOX very much so far this season, so I guess I can tolerate them for a day... ESPN broadcasters aren't much better... they get on my nerves alot too. Rita... did you see that the Player's Union filed a grievance over Chacon's release?! They are saying that it was done without cause or something like that... UM.. HELLLLO he pushed the GM over. I would consider that reason for dismissal.

I saw that about Chacon. Brother. Sheesh.
I thought I knew Ponson from somewhere, but couldn't place him on the Astros lineup. But almost every team we play has at least one (usually more) ex-Astros in their lineup. It is weird. New Astros catcher, Humberto Quintero, got a nasty conk on the noggin last night when Maza's follow through tried to go through Q's head. He is out for at least 15 days with a concussion. It was a very scary moment as he collapsed on the ground, writhing in pain. Plus, a few innings later - Maza almost conked Ausmus on the head with another follow through. Maybe this guy needs to make an adjustment before he kills someone. Just my opinion mind you. Berkman will be in the homerun derby at the AS break this year. He came in 2nd the last time that he participated - second to Miguel Tejada!!!
Do you think it might be possible to get someone to play for the Astros in left field that might accidentally move beyond a snail's pace (if at all) to try to catch fly balls out there? Could it happen? Don't get me wrong, I like Carlos Lee & think he brings a lot to the hitting side of the club. But holy cow - that man is *never* going to sacrifice his body to make an out. Nope. Ain't gonna happen. It is so frustrating to watch as he stands flat-footed while fly balls drop within an arm's length of him. How many runs have we given up because of that alone? He either needs to play left field like he means it or something, but this just can't continue much longer. Where did we get this slow-a$$ guy from anyway?!
|
|||

I believe Carlos Lee was with the White Sox Rita... if I'm not mistaken. I don't remember how much outfield he played... who knows he may have DH'd
a lot there. Never mind... I just looked it up... he played a little first base but mostly outfield in Chicago... and he only played the outfield in Milwaukee
which is where you guys got him from. It amazes me to see some players just not put much of an effort in at all when either playing the field or running the
bases... it drives me crazy, so I can only imagine how the managers must feel. I heard about your catcher Rita... scary moment. Hopefully he'll be feeling
better soon!! I think the player that hit him should alter his follow through especially since he almost got your other catcher too... Jorge got hit in the
back of the head a couple years ago behind his ear ... he needed some stitches and was pretty dazed after it.... very scary. As I've said before...
catchers get the most respect from me with all that they go through on a daily basis. Jose Molina (our backup catcher) got hit with a pitch the other day (he
was expecting Veras to throw a breaking ball, and he threw a fast ball.... OWWWIE) in his "special place" ... the ball got away, and despite being in
pain, he had enough sense to get the ball so the runners couldn't advance) he was down for a little while but stayed in the game once feeling returned to
the area. Tonight starts the dreaded Sox series.. they just got swept by Tampa Bay
. We've got Andy going for us today... no one else
I'd want starting the series besides Andy... he's been on fire lately, and Andy's always been a big game pitcher. Hopefully our bats will be awake
today after scoring 18 runs last night!! Oh... and just what we don't need right now... off the field distractions... Arod and his wife
supposedly split up after all the rumors of his affairs.. they have a 3 month old and a 2 or 3 year old... hopefully they can work it out for the kids'
sake, but I just hope his performance on the field doesn't suffer... we need him right now.

Ok... now that I am recovered from my heart attack (courtesy of Mariano Rivera) I can talk about it... LOL. Mike Mussina pitched fabulous... 6 scoreless
innings... left the game with some flu like symptoms... he said on the post game that he didn't want to blow such a big game because of not feeling well,
so he asked them to take him out. Our bullpen did a fabulous job until...... Mo came in... LOL. He gave up 2 typical Mariano Rivera bloop hits that made the
score 2-1 .. then ended up hitting the next 2 guys to load the bases with no one out... before finally getting a strike out, a pop up and finally a strike out
to end the game... he always seems to make things interesting when we play the Sox. The way our season has been going... I was picturing a grand slam or
something blowing the game after getting such a great effort from Moose (who IMO deserves to be on the All Star team!). It was a big relief when he got that
final out let me tell you.
This is such a frustrating season... so not what I was expecting. We have another injury... Johnny Damon crashed into the wall to make a catch and ended up jamming his shoulder or something... may be headed for the DL for the first time in his career. I appreciate the effort (and he actually did have the ball in his glove, but then it popped out when he hit the wall) but hate the fact that he got injured... that's the kind of player he is though... he goes all out.

Reds are on a good roll of winning this week which is a nice change from the last homestand which was downright crappy. They've won three games so far
against the Nats and go for the sweep tomorrow afternoon. Good pitching and clutch hitting is going a long way with my guys...wish they could have figured that
second part out a lot sooner, LOL
I'm now 3-2 in the games that I've attended this season (we were there on Thursday night which was really fun with the fireworks show after the game) and it's nice to have a winning attendance record again! I had a losing one last year at this time and it never got better. I have another game on July 19th which is also HOF night where I'll get to see one of my favorite guys, Barry Larkin, get inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame. That should be a fun night and it's against the Mets too which should be a great game.
Orioles are still hanging around and doing pretty well so they've been fun to follow too. They won last night and lost today so they can take the series tomorrow if they can somehow remember how to win a game on a Sunday. They've lost like 12 in a row on Sundays this year! That's insane. Hopefully the streak ends tomorrow.

Well, I am sick to death of the All-Star selections - especially for the AL team. Can you say "I am so over the Red Sox". And I am *really* over
dreadlocks, no matter where they crop up. I was actually shocked to see that a stellar Josh Hamilton made the starting lineup, from the lowly Texas Rangers.
After all, he isn't on the Red Sox. On the NL side, a few surprises. I think the choices were more representative of the entire league (instead of one or
two teams). Lance Berkman made the cut at first base, based on his overall performance this season (although he has been doing some struggling recently). So I
am happy for him. Should be interesting, despite my disappointment with the easy-to-see-coming results on the AL side.
PS - Did I not see any Cards in the starting lineup?!

Rita - There are at least two Cardinals on the team but neither of them was elected to start the game by the fans (Albert and Ryan Ludwick are the only two I
can think of off the top of my head who made the team). I'm over the All Star game too. It's gotten ridiculous how many players from the 'big
teams' keep getting elected to this craptastic farce of a game. I hate how it decides home field advantage too. I think the managers select a lot of the
reserve people on that basis instead of actually finding the stars for the first half of the season. I can't believe Varitek is on the AL team when
he's barely hitting above the Mendosa line! Brian Roberts was totally snubbed by the players and managers which is unfair since he's near or at the top
of several different stat lines right now. He at least got on the final vote ballot (PLEASE help me vote girls!!!) but there should NOT be so many RS and Cubs
players on either of these teams. Billy Wagner is NOT the most deserving Met to go for the NL and somehow he's their only rep. Ken Griffey Jr was second in
the OF voting not even a week ago and now suddenly he doesn't even make the team?! This entire thing is insane but I'll stop ranting about it now.
I am extremely proud of Josh Hamilton for making the team (man, what a story!) and he's also doing the HR Derby which should be CRAZY awesome! That guy can RAKE in batting practice so I can only imagine what he should do in the HR Derby. Edinson Volquez is DEFINITELY the Reds All Star and I can't wait to hear all about his adventures at the AS game. He's such a good kid and I think he'll have a blast! George Sherrill is definitely a deserving choice for the Orioles but I'm still shaking my head over Brian not making it. I'm happy for the three Angels guys who made the team too (KRod, Ervin Santana, and Joe Saunders) because they really stepped up and helped that team to one of the best records in baseball for the first half which they did without their top two starters from last season (although Lackey is now back with them). I'll still watch the game to see my faves play but the selection process still annoys me. Oh well. *sigh*
BTW-Reds win again and complete the sweep of the Nationals today by beating them 6-5! It would help me out a lot if the guys could start beating up on the teams that they should be beating (which they haven't done a lot of this year) along with their whole beating the teams who were supposed to be beating them thing, LOL

When I was watching the All Star Selection show and heard Varitek named as one of the reserves, my first reaction was WTF?! I don't see how he made it this
year... he is not having a good year at all, and there's others who are more deserving this year than him. It nauseates me to think of so many Red Sox
players in the game in MY HOUSE.... LOL. Now, I wasn't expecting to have a lot of players on the team this year, but I'd love to know why Moose got
left off the team... he's having such a great year... he definitely deserves to be there.... but whatever. Glad to see Mo elected as a member of the
team... he's having possibly his best year ever. If he was healthy, I thought Johnny Damon might've had a chance, but he's on the DL now.. so
that's not even an issue. We have a chance for one more all star... Giambi is in the final vote consideration
.
I was shocked to see Wagner as the only Met on the team.... I don't really pay much mind to the Mets, but it seems like whenever I do read something, Wagner's blowing a big game... how the heck does that equal an All Star nod?! I thought Wright would've made it (he's in the running for the final vote though). Hopefully Soriano is healthy enough to play... but hopefully he'll still make an appearance if he can't play... it will be great to see him back for a day. Congrats to Josh Hamilton... mom and I met him when he was first drafted with the Rays... he was still in high school at the time, and had classmates coming up to him to give him his assignments... LOL!!! He was very nice and took the time to sign autographs, etc. He's having a fabulous year, very deserving of the all star team!

Kyle Loshe is 10-2 in starts and didn't get considered at all and I'm ticked! I'm sooooo happy for Ryan Ludwick, but the All-Star game is just a
farce as far as I'm concerned (that being said, I'm saving my money to attend in St. Louis next year LOL). As they read Red Sox player after Red Sox
player, I was stunned by the inclusion of Ichiro (I don't know how to spell that) and Hamilton myself. Soriano voted in is bull chit.....he's on the
DL, just like David Ortiz. So very happy that the NL voters seem to vote for the players that deserve to be there. Lance Berkman sooooo deserved to be there,
as well as Chase Utley, Hanley Ramirez and Chipper Jones...I never think a Cub deserves anything, so we'll just skip past them LOL!
It's interesting about the end-of-the year awards that they're already talking about. Tampa Bay's coach is a no brainer, but they're screaming for the Marlins coach when, IMHO, no one deserves it more than Tony LaRussa. The Cards were picked to finish at the bottom of the division, an 80-loss season and here they are, almost to the all-star break, 3 1/2 games behind the Cubs. Now granted if they fall, he won't, but if they make the playoffs, I don't know how they can't give it to him, but it's probably like Jerry Sloan with the NBA Coach of the Year (he never won it when he had Stockton & Malone, and he'll never win it as long as he has Williams & Boozer), he'll never win it as long as he has Albert Pujols. A-Fraud and Madonna----WTF is going on there?! For starters, I could care less about any of the two parties involved here; in fact, if Madonna disappeared from the public eye forever, I wouldn't shed any tears--my opinion of her is that she's a mildy-talented hack and I can't wait for the day when one of her children's buddies says "Hey, look what I found" and pulls out her "SEX" book! But, I don't understand where these reporters get off asking him after games what's going on....HELLO! I think that's a private matter and shouldn't be discussed at work. The treatment of this whole situation just makes me sick!

Ludwick definitely deserved the nod. He has been astounding so far this season. As has Utley. I actually voted for several players that aren't on my *two*
teams. I've got to see enough games and enough players from different teams to have an idea of how everyone is doing.
BTW Andie - I was really proud of Cardinals Nation for giving Jimmy E such a great welcome back to Busch. I was so afraid that they would be mean to him - for no reason (at least the way that I see it). I hope that him & TLR ironed things out also. I would really enjoy it if my team could win 2 or 3 games in a row once or twice. That would be a great novelty. Also, it might be nice if they didn't
play anymore unscheduled double headers.

I was proud of them too (I was also proud of myself for not breaking out in tears in front of everyone!) He looked a bit overwhelmed and then kind of wiped his
eyes on his shoulders---like he was wiping away "sweat" and then had a little embarassed look on his face when he stepped into the box----I think he
teared up a bit myself. All the talk about on Friday was how he was the enemy and when Jim Edmonds day at the ballpark came along, that was the time to
celebrate his Cardinal career. I beg to differ. Tony wasn't thrilled with his comments, but they were taken out of context; Tony is so passionate about the
Cardinal legacy that if he feels that someone is thumbing their nose at it, he's going to get seriously pissed. I know he didn't mean to just forget
the past and that he was ever a Cardinal, but that's how Tony took it and I hope they smoothed things over.

Boy oh boy oh boy oh boy. Can this season end soon? Please.
The Astros need to rebuild in a major way. I think the best place to start is with the managers and coaches. The current group just isn't working out at all. They look like a bunch of damn amateurs. Even the players are questioning what the hell they are doing. So you know it's bad. I still say that the Astros really has a great team (except for pitching), but they are being so mis-managed that they are hobbled by it. Plus I am guessing that the morale in the clubhouse is for the birds. This year has been really sad. I love my 'Stros & I feel sorry for the players. I think they could all excel with the proper coaching and management.
